The Fall Skin Edit: Richer Moisture for Cooler Days

As the weather changes, your skin might need a little extra love. Here's how to adjust your moisturizing routine without starting from scratch.

We change our wardrobes when fall arrives, so why not give our skincare routines a seasonal update, too?

Cooler temperatures, lower humidity, and indoor heating can leave skin feeling drier than usual. That lightweight moisturizer you loved all summer might not be giving your skin everything it needs now.

The good news? You don't need to replace your entire skincare collection. Sometimes, adding a facial oil or switching to a richer moisturizer is enough to make a noticeable difference.

Moisture Matters (And So Does Drinking Water!)

Let’s shift to hydration versus moisturizing. Hydration refers to the water content in your skin, while moisturizers help soften your skin and reduce moisture loss. During fall and winter, keeping that moisture from escaping becomes especially important.

And while we're talking about hydration, don't forget to drink your water! Internal moisturization is more important than external moisturization. It's easy to drink less when you're not sweating through summer heat or feeling thirsty all day. Your body still needs adequate hydration when it's cold outside, even if you're not reaching for your water bottle as often.

Consider Adding a Facial Oil

If you haven't incorporated a facial oil into your routine, fall is a great time to try one. Our Glass Skin Magic Cleansing & Moisturizing Oil is a lightweight, multipurpose oil that can be incorporated into your routine in several ways.

You can use it as the first step in double cleansing to help dissolve makeup and buildup before following with your regular facial cleanser. Or use it as a moisturizing oil when your skin needs a little extra softness.

My personal favorite? Using it as the final step in my daytime moisturizing routine, year-round.

After applying my toner and cream-based moisturizer, I finish with a few drops of Magic Oil to help seal in moisture. It's a simple addition that leaves my skin feeling soft without the heaviness of a body butter. If you're curious about adding an oil to your routine, this is an easy place to start.

When Your Skin Needs Something Richer

Sometimes, a lightweight oil just isn't enough, especially if you're dealing with particularly dry skin.

That's when I reach for QW Self Care Body Nectar.

Made with shea butter, cocoa butter, coconut oil, and essential oils, Body Nectar has a rich, creamy texture that helps soften and condition dry skin.

You can use it as a standalone body moisturizer, apply it as the final step over your usual cream-based moisturizer, or blend a small amount with your moisturizer in your palm before applying.

Some customers also enjoy using Body Nectar on their faces during colder months, although richer butter-based products won't be everyone's preference.

Personally, I love Body Nectar as a finishing layer during fall and winter, particularly after a shower while my skin is still slightly damp.

And yes, keep drinking that water! 💧

Don't Forget Your Toner

If your skin enjoys a refreshing toner, there's no reason to abandon that step when the seasons change.

The Healer, our facial toner and mist, is designed to soothe and refresh irritated-feeling skin. It can be used after cleansing and before moisturizing, helping prepare your skin for the next steps in your routine.

Apply your moisturizer while your skin is still slightly damp to help reduce moisture loss.

A Few Small Changes Go a Long Way

One more thing: I know a long, steaming-hot shower feels wonderful when it's cold outside, but very hot water can leave your skin feeling even drier.

Try comfortably warm water instead, and moisturize shortly afterward. Pay extra attention to your elbows, knees, hands, and heels, which can become especially dry as temperatures drop.

And if your skin starts feeling tight or rough, pay attention. Your summer routine may simply need a little adjustment.

Give Your Skin What It Needs This Fall

Your skincare routine doesn't need to be complicated. Some people prefer a lightweight oil, others love a rich body butter, and some enjoy using both.

The important thing is finding what works for your skin and adjusting when its needs change.

A little more moisture, a few extra minutes of care, and, of course, plenty of water. 💜
